The Delaware Department of Education awarded Great Oaks Charter School – Wilmington (GO – WIL) $2 million through the 2022-2023 school year as a part of the federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers program.
Each year, GO – WIL will receive $400,000 to support the extension of GO WIL’s summer school and after school programs, which will provide every GO WIL student with unprecedented opportunities for academic and recreational enrichment. Highlights of the summer programming include hands-on STEAM activities, literacy practice, daily character and leadership development, and sports and arts offerings. After school programming during the school year will feature a new high school band, expanded athletics, and supplementary and remedial academic support.
This is great news for our students and families. To accomplish much of this work we have forged a partnership with the Summer Learning Collaborative, a Wilmington-based non-profit that is focused on summer learning. Many thanks to the school team, led by Kia Johnson, that continues to develop programming that will contribute to not only college success but also the holistic development of Wilmington’s youth for years to come.
