Former GO – NYC Social Studies Teacher, Vanessa Luna, featured in Nightline

As a teacher, I just want to provide a safe space for my kids and for them to be able to know that their voices are extremely important.

We are proud to share this episode of Nightline, where Ms. Luna shares her personal story as an undocumented immigrant from Peru who benefits from the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) immigration policy. Founded under the Obama administration, DACA allows certain undocumented immigrants who were brought into the country as minors to receive work permits and deferred action from deportation. In her interview, Ms. Luna voices the concerns many families across the country now face as the new administration considers whether it will continue the policy. She speaks about the uncertainty her students feel and how she believes it is important to give them the time and a safe place to voice their opinions about injustices that they see in the world around them.

Ms. Luna, thank you for always encouraging our students to share their stories.
